Auxerre in a week-end is possible!

The city is full of historical monuments and walks in the city center or along the Canal du Nivernais.

With or without a car, you have the opportunity to discover Auxerre’s treasures.

 

Day 1

MORNING Visite the city center’s must see
  • Saint Germain Abbey and its Museum
  • Saint-Étienne Cathedral
  • The Clock Tower and its area

If you need more informations you have two options:

  • Use the bronze arrows set into the pavement with the booklet, “On the footsteps of Cadet Roussel” in sale at the Tourist Office (1.50€).
  • Guided tours are organized all year long by the Tourist Office on various themes, more information here.
AFTERNOON Walk along the Nivernais Canal

You can discover the Canal on different ways:

Day 2

Second day in Auxerre, there is still so much to see!

For example:

  • The Museum of Natural History
  • The Micro-folie, digital museum
  • Leblanc-Duvernoy Museum
  • Eckmühl Room

All museums in the city are free.

In the Auxerrois, you could admire hidden gems:

  • Archeological site of Escolives Sainte-Camille
  • Saint-Prix-Saint-Cot church of Saint-Bris le Vineux
  • Vaulted caves in wine villages

For those who want to explore the Auxerrois vineyards, the Tourist Office has set up the Oenobus: a free shuttle which, every Tuesday in the summer season, serves, 6 typical wine-growing villages: Escolives, Coulanges-la-vineuse, Irancy , Chitry, Saint-Bris-le-Vineux, and the hamlet of Bailly.

Schedule available at the Tourist Office in Auxerre: départures at 10:00, 11:30, 14:00 and 15:30.
