Auxerrois wine region

It is thanks to archaeological digs at Escolives Sainte Camille, where a 2nd century bas relief illustrated with a bunch of grapes was unearthed, that the oldest vineyard remains have been discovered in the south of Auxerre.

Generally speaking, vineyards are well established in the Yonne département, mostly due to river routes enabling wines to be delivered swiftly to Paris, where they were marketed.

In today's language, the "Grand Auxerrois" wine region covers not only this main part, situated to the south of Auxerre, but also the double part more to the north of the département (Côte Saint Jacques vineyard in Joigny and Champvallon vineyard) and the south of the département (the Vézelay wine region).

Discover the riches of our wine country and be captivated by the charms of their differences.
