Auxerre is crossed by the Yonne river which gives its name to the département. It is of particular interest to the town of Auxerre, as the river crisscrosses at the foot of the town centre where there is a marina, a favourite stop-over for many sailors who come to savour the magnificent panorama over the town and its monuments.
The view is particularly amazing at night time, with the lights illuminating the monuments reflecting in the water: a real picture postcard not to be missed!"
The primary water-related activity in Auxerre is going sailing on a pleasure boat. Not far from the Marina, heading towards Vaux and Auxerre's sports' facilities, other water sports are also offered by sports' associations, such as canoeing or water skiing.
You can also come and cool off in our impressive Stade Nautique, which has 5 indoor swimming pools with a jacuzzi, 3 outdoor swimming pools with a water slide and play areas.
